Shuffle Along [1921] 1921

A re-imagined version of the 1921 musical SHUFFLE ALONG one of the earliest stage hits starring, written and directed by African-Americans, will open this week on Broadway. Working alongside such Tony-winning Broadway legends as Savion Glover, Audra McDonald, Billy Porter and Brian Stokes Mitchell are young performers making their debut on the Great White Way.  BroadwayWorld brings you a first look at the cast in action below!

There were no original cast albums in 1921, so this scene by scene synopsis of the original SHUFFLE ALONG is augmented by various recordings of songs from the score.

One of the most significant musicals of the 20th Century, “Shuffle Along” was a rarity, written, produced, and acted wholly by African Americans. For the first time racially diverse audiences celebrated the uniqueness of this musical together.
